Web 3 Confrences Have A Certain Cliche, Zebu Live Breaks Barriers

Months ago we teamed up with Zebu Live to excel their media coverage around the leading Web 3 conference in London. Since then, the team has underwent a number of changes, iterations & developments to make the event that one bit greater.

Harry Horsfall joined us as the brains behind the operation to discuss how he ended up being the founder of what is a industry leading event involving Web 3’s brightest minds.

Russian DeFi: Welcome Harry, absolute pleasure to connect our partnership in this little Zebu Live deep dive!

How have you been these past few days?

Harry Horsfall: It's crazy, man. The market's like, whirling back into it's been a tough winter, hasn't it?

However we are really starting to see the sort of market well back into life, which is just so great to see.

Russian DeFi: Agreed, talking about the state of the market, how does a marketing agency foresight & navigate that bearish period?

Harry Horsfall: I think as a marketing agency, we felt the bear market long before it hit because everyone could tell it was coming, so they were like, literally, we're going to protect our runway, we're going to stop working, etc.

So it’s amazing to see it come back. The exchanges have a lot of the money and once they start whirling, everyone starts whirling.

Russian DeFi: The energy that we have felt being partnered with you guys is second to none. We often find partnerships in the space that are dormant but this really isn’t the case with Zebu.

Where does this partnership culture stem from?

Harry Horsfall: The goal for us to do that is to meet you, so that when we have clients, we can then get your services for them. The goal, Zebu Live, is to build the community so we meet each other.

I sold my previous business which was a music management company that ran music festivals. I was like, I'm never running events again. And then, bang, here I am running massive events. I got no hair left, it's very stressful job, but I love it. I love meeting passionate people. I've spoken to you for ten minutes, I can tell you're passionate about Web Three. You got to remember, we're changing the world here. This is not just, I'm going to turn up to my day job at Coke or Mars or BetFair.

This is like, you are changing the world. That's the opportunity you have. If you f*** it up, the big companies will take it out of your hands.

Russian DeFi: I totally agree. A Lot of this space is about energy, passion & assessing the risks of our industry & that becomes a lot easier when you have the likes of Zebu looking to foster these IRL connections.

You guys recently got acquired by Flight Story, huge news, how did that come about?

Harry Horsfall: What happened was, we booked Stephen Bartlett, who owns Flight Story, and we had him headline last year's Zebu Live. Working with him, he spoke to his business partner and the CEO of Flight Story, guy called Oliver Yonchev, and he was like, you should definitely speak to these guys. They're perfect for Flight story.

Anyway, I had a chat with Oliver. It was 2 hours, was blown away by his enthusiasm. And he built one of the best social media marketing agencies called Social Chain, which he sold previously.

So he had all the knowledge and yeah, then for me, it was a tricky decision because obviously were motoring, we're doing well, we're doing our own thing.

But for me, the ability to build a blue chip marketing agency that quickly and all their knowledge and all their experience meant that I'm like, wow, these types of people I couldn't hire quick enough to get ready for the next bull run. So I was like, I'm all in. Let's go. Flight story. And now we're Flight Three, which is the sort of Web 3 and innovation arm of the wider group.

Russian DeFi: That’s exciting I can’t wait to see what you guys manage to whip up!

You touched on last years event headlined by Steven Bartlett, how was the event?

Harry Horsfall: It was amazing. It was really inspirational to see the sort of community come together from all over the world. I think 72 countries were in attendance, mixture of C suite people, VCs developers, community builders, devs.

We obviously doubled in size, went from one day to two days. We had a much bigger after party at Cocoa. We had an amazing dinner and there was stuff that we needed to work on. We had a bit of a nightmare at various parts, but it went really well and it reminded us more importantly, we are building this fully with the community and we had no investment.

Russian DeFi: That sounds like it was certainly a blast then!

You sound super passionate about turning these internet synergies into IRL connections, why is that important?

Harry Horsfall: I think when you're on the internet, you're always doing a million things at once. You are on Five Telegram chats, you're flicking through them, you're on Slack, you're on WhatsApp, you're on a Google Meet, you're on Twitter, you're on Discord. Oh, my God. .

Networking means the true definition of networking is just give loads of value. How can I help you? What can I do to help you? How can I collab with your project? It's not like buy my service. That happens later.

Russian DeFi: Thats what happens when you actually turn these relationships into real meaningful collaborations

I have always wanted to ask what does Zebu even mean?

Harry Horsfall: zero bullshit. Always bullish. And it's a rare form of African bull. And with Zebu Live, it doesn't really mean anything apart from forward thinking innovation tech. When we started, were DeFi live, but we realized that was too restrictive to us in the long term. Okay, so in the long term, Zebu Live.

Russian DeFi: It was great to hire firsthand from the Zebu Live team directly responsible for this event as it further instills confidence that we are as aligned as we initially perceived!
